In the middle of April, there is less than half a month left before the end of the 2022 baby eel fishing season. In recent days, the temperature gradually rose around the Chinese mainland, Japan, South Korea and other places the harvest of seedlings is getting worse and worse.

This season, baby eel fishing in three east Asian regions has been depressed, compared with the fishing season of 2020 and 2021, the catch was significantly lower. The final harvest of seedlings in the three countries is expected to stop at 35 to 40 tons when the fishing season ends.

As of April 15, a total of 34,480-34,800 kg of babay eel had been caught in three regions of East Asia. In Japan, 8000kg of eel larvae were captured, accounting for 23.1% of the total. A total of 23700-23790kg of baby eels were captured in mainland China, accounting for 68.5% of the total. In Taiwan, 1380-1610kg of baby eels were captured, accounting for 4.3% of the total. The total catch in South Korea was 1400kg, accounting for 4.0% of the total.

As of April 15, 34,100 to 34,400 kg of baby eels were collected into ponds in the three countries and one region of East Asia. Among them, 14300kg of baby eels were imported from Japan, accounting for 41.8% of the total. In Chinese mainland , 13000-13300kg of baby eels were put into ponds, accounting for 38.4% of the total. In Taiwan, 1000kg of baby eels were collected into ponds, accounting for 2.9% of the total. A total of 5,800 kg of baby eels were put into ponds in South Korea, accounting for 16.9% of the total.

As the fishing season draws to a close, baby eel fishing in China’ mainland has been mainly carried out in Jiangsu province and Shanghai. Relevant people said that the recent average daily seedling amount maintained at about 50kg. Fujian Putian baby eels circulation price remained unchanged at 18.5 yuan/tail.

Japan

Binming lake fish farming association did not collect baby eel today. Baby eel will be collected from several branches in Binming Lake tomorrow and from two branches in Tianlongchuan and Longyang on Saturday. It is reported that as of the 14th, the association has accumulated 650kg of seedlings and 600kg of seedlings. In addition, shizuoka Eel Fishing Association collected 5kg of seedlings this morning, a total of 200kg of seedlings. At the present stage, 13 households have been inoculated with about 300kg of eel seedlings. There was no catch news from Tokushima and Chiba, which will finish fishing tomorrow. Despite the poor harvest and high prices of baby eels this season, about 14 tons of seedlings have been imported into Japan.

South Korea

The fishing area of baby eel in Korea has been expanded to cover the whole country. However, due to poor tidal conditions, fishing deteriorated, with daily crop yields falling to 20-30ka. In addition, at present, the price of local baby eels into the pond is 3400-3500 won (about 17.55-18.07 yuan/tail), and the total number of seedlings has reached nearly 6 tons. Similar to the situation in other regions, three-quarters of the eelfry are imported because of poor harvests

Japan

With the cherry blossom season coming and the weather getting warmer, the baby eel fishing in Japan is coming to an end. In three days, the fishing season will end in Shikoku Yoshinochuan, around the airport, Tokushima Prefecture, and chiba prefecture, which has a large number of fishing grounds in Kanto Ligen Chuan, Chiba, 999-ri, Waigaba and other areas. Next, the only fishing areas for eel larvae in Japan are In Shizuoka, Tenryokawa, Ryoyo, Yuandu and Ibaraki. 

The fishing is getting worse these days as temperatures continue to rise. On both sides of Ligen River in Kanto: for days, the catch is less than double digits, and the catch of seedlings can be counted on one hand.
